Glass as a separate work of art in the garden in beautiful, but glass can be used to encapsulate designs and patterns between layers, or to form a striking wall of colour when a backing has been applied.
In this article, the third in our series on using glass, we look at the artistic detail that glass can be used to introduce to a garden.
SmartGlass™ Solutions, from PG Glass, makes it possible to combine the beauty of natural glass with an infinite range of colours and patterns. Because the colours or patterns are encapsulated between layers of glass it is easier to clean and maintain than sandblasted glass, and it never peels like vinyl.
Another solution is DécorArt, a colourful and strong product in the garden. It is created by giving toughened safety glass a special coating of gloss spray paint. The colour choice is almost endless as the full colour spectrum provided by Plascon Paints can be used.
Other ways to add artistic flair to a garden include using glass beads and glass mosaics; the ways they can be used are practically unlimited.
The photographs in the article show some intriguing examples of how glass and art can be combined to add detail to a garden. They were seen at the Sherwood Garden Show (held annually in Port Elizabeth by the Sherwood Garden Centre).
