We know South Africans love their gardens! This magazine inspires the home enthusiast with practical ideas for maintaining and enhancing their gardens, patios and backyards. New plants and products are mentioned first in The Gardener and there is also a special focus on indigenous gardening in South Africa.

On the August 2010 cover:

Dutch Irises

Dutch irises are the result of crossing IRIS xiphium and IRIS tingitana. They are sold as dry bulbs, and flower naturally in late winter or early spring, but with temperature manipulation they can be encouraged to flower earlier or later. You won’t find an article on these irises in this issue of The Gardener, but this photograph of them, taken by Geoff Redman at the 2010 Chelsea Flower Show, was so striking we decided to share it with you.
