These gardens will be on display from Friday, 31st October 2025- Sunday, 2 November 2025 and Friday, 7th November 2025- Sunday, 9th November 2025.

Belmont Farm

Ria and Henry Moolman

Belmont farm offers a unique lifestyle for the Moolman’s who have always been totally off-grid. A donkey boiler provides hot water, while solar and wind power generate electricity. A Lister engine generator is used to charge the batteries when needed. 

Directions: Take the Tarkastad road via Baviaans Route, pass the big white church on your right, 2 km after the church turn left, onto a smaller road. Belmont is the third farm.

Cavers

Kenneth and Rozanne Ross, Bruce and Tarin Ross 

This peaceful oasis with huge trees, sweeping lawns and bountiful herbaceous boarders frame a blue chip guest house and gracious 5th generation family home. Windows in the various garden rooms invite the eye outwards towards the magnificent mountain sky. There is space to unwind and dream. 

Directions: Travel out of Bedford on the R63 towards Adelaide. After 8 km, turn left at the Cowie/Mill cricket ground sign onto a dirt road. After 3,4 km turn left at the T-junction through a security gate and travel for 4 km. Cavers Country House will be on the right.

Cole Street Conservatory

Edcot Trust

The Cole Street Conservatory is a peaceful space which consists solely of a collection of beneficial edible plants and herbs and includes heritage roses and citrus trees. The medicinal and gastronomic uses are displayed alongside each plant and you’re welcome to taste the various plants.

Directions: From the roundabout in Bedford head towards Adelaide for 50 m. You will see the Conservatory ahead on your right.

De Oude Fabreeck

This garden is a must-see, featuring a vast lush green landscape adorned with a beautiful old factory and buildings that create interesting accents to the scenery.

This old ancestral stone house has wonderful vistas out front framed by lawns, old trees, aloes, plumbago and Tecomaria capensis. A stone walled kitchen garden with raised beds has plenty of veggie and fruit trees.

Directions: Travel out of Bedford on the R63 toward Adelaide for 8 km then turn left at Cowie sign onto dirt road. After 3.4 km left at T junction, then go through security gate. After 0.5 km turn, right at Donkerhoek/Kelvinside sign, over causeway and around the hill, see sign on the left.

Eildon Farm

Open 2nd weekend only. 

Mass planting of 600+ roses, established trees, sweeping lawns and 100 year old stone walls, all set against a backdrop of the harsh Baviaans, makes this 7th generation homestead a must see. A formal garden with informal planting, come and enjoy the timeless serenity of this lovingly tended country garden. 

Directions: From Bedford take the R63 to Cookhouse/Cradock. 9 km from Bedford, turn right and through the boomgate. Stay on this road for 37 km. Eildon will be on your left.

Fair Holt Farm

Pringle Family

A new garden has been established around the original homestead of Fair Holt Farm. The garden is low maintenance and waterwise, featuring indigenous plants as well as a formal planted area framed by salt bush. Delicate French panarosa roses are planted along the front of the house. The herb and vegetable garden has been expanded over the last two seasons and is now an extension of the nursery area.

Directions: From Bedford, turn right onto the R63 towards Cradock. After 10 km turn right towards Tarkastad and go through a security red/white boom (no cell signal after this point). After 18.5 km turn left at the white sign ‘WD Pringle’ among other names and drive through a drift. Continue for 5 km the road will then fork (left/house or right/shed). Take the left fork, drive ±500 m and park on the road.

Directions: Take the R63 from Cookhouse towards Somerset East. After 20 km turn right onto a gravel Road and follow the signs to Glen Avon for 6 km.

Directions: From Bedford, take the R63 towards Cradock. About 10 km from Bedford, take the Cradock turnoff to your right. Continue until you get to the N10 and turn right. After about 1 km you will cross the Baviaans River bridge. Then turn left onto the Klipfontein Road. Continue for about 6 km and find the Kokskraal entrance on your right (no gravel road, only tarred surface).

Maasström Farm Garden

A magnificent Atlas cedar welcomes you to the historical Maasström farm garden. The formal garden of roses, topiaries and pathways are surrounded by informal plantings. The grove of yellowwood trees lead you to the Heritage Rose Garden which also include David Austin roses. Mature trees shade the footpaths, with benches placed for quiet contemplation. The cycad garden has developed well and houses interesting specimens. A memorable garden that will inspire and fill you with peace. 

Directions: Van Riebeeck Street will lead you straight to the entrance, which is marked by two white pillars.

The Orchards

The SA Rosarium

Corner of Upper Stockholm and Hart Street 

The special and unique national collection of old roses occurring in South Africa is planted in The South African Rosarium. The tranquil garden is nestled at the foothills of the Kaga Mountain on the outskirts of the village. This position offers an ideal growing climate for these wild species roses to prosper and be preserved. At varying times of the year the roses are in full flush and it is a site to be seen. Springtime and autumn are the two main times for viewing and experiencing the heady perfume of the garden. The entire garden is run on organic and sustainable principles with absolutely no use of any spray regime, artificial fertilisers nor weed control measures. The roses are surrounded by companion plants, herbs and medically useful plants and uses the phases of the moon for propagation of these special plants.
