Grahamstown – Makhanda Open Gardens 2023

Note: This event was previously set for 28 October but has been postponed due to forecast rain.

6 diverse gardens will be open for the public to explore in the Grahamstown/Makhanda area. These open gardens are in support of the Grahamstown SPCA.

Bring an umbrella for the sun …or the rain!

Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm

Tickets: An “All Gardens” ticket is R80 pp and can be purchased on the day at 16 Hillsview Road or 37 Oatlands Road. Alternatively, you can donate R20 pp at each garden. Tickets exclude refreshments.

Gardens:

16 Hillsview Road, Sunnyside – stroll through Robyn’s large established park-like colourful garden.  Tea and scones/ cake available between 10am and 12pm.  Card facilities.

9 Webber Street, Sunnyside – View Karen’s waterwise succulent garden.

18 Cory Circle, Hill 60 – Sun Bird Cottage – enjoy Elysoun’s colourful country cottage garden.

37 Oatlands Road, Oatlands – be enchanted by Claire’s established English garden bursting wih colour and roses.  Browse the SPCA’s pop-up stall of pre-loved treasures, books and plants. Card facilities.

Brackenhill – on the left on the N2 toward Port Elizabeth – Audrey and Wyndham –  a large rambling country garden,  see the last of Wyndham’s flowering orchids – lunch and refreshments will be sold (12pm – 2pm).

26 Kings Heights Estate, 8 Kings Crescent – enjoy views over Grahamstown in David’s garden that combines fynbos, roses and lavender for a colourful show.  Wine and sparkling wine will be available between 2pm and 4pm (for a donation) to get you into the mood for the rugby final!
