Schoombee Open Gardens

There is something special about finding a flourishing garden in the heart of the Karoo. Schoombee Gardens invites visitors to spend time among beautiful country gardens, enjoy the peaceful surroundings and experience the hospitality of this unique farming community. It is an opportunity to slow down, enjoy the scenery and see the care and creativity that have transformed these homesteads into inviting garden spaces.

Schoombee Gardens are situated in the area between Middelburg, Steynsburg and Hofmeyr. The area has its own Karoo beauty – vast space, mountains, unusual koppies and scrub vegetation. The water from the Orange and Fish Rivers Scheme runs through this area from the Gariep Dam. Each gardener at Schoombee has created a beautiful oasis around their homestead. They are
gardens with big trees, shrubs, roses and flowers. Green and colourful, in stark contrast to the often dry and parched Karoo veld. At each garden light refreshments such as juice, tea, coffee and rusks will be provided. This is free, other than a tip box. Others will have something more substantial to eat, either free or at a nominal cost. There is no entry fee at any of the gardens. Plants and trees will be sold at some of them.
