Saturday 6 – Sunday 7 September
NORTHWARDS HOUSE
Northwards House is a distinguished heritage mansion designed by Sir Herbert Baker in 1904. Notable elements include a minstrel gallery and Juliet balconies, reflecting the opulence of Johannesburg’s early 20th-century elite. The gardens of Northwards were originally expansive, encompassing seven hectares of terraced lawns, manicured paths, and carriageways. Designed in a classic Italianate style inspired by Gertrude Jekyll’s principles, the gardens offer panoramic views over the city’s northern suburbs. Today, a portion of the original garden remains, including a small koppie adorned with indigenous plantings. At this time of the year, the azaleas should be in full bloom!
