Calpurnia aurea
Wild Laburnum
The Calpurnia Aurea is one of our most rewarding small, semi-evergreen trees. It is fast growing and can reach a height of 3 or 4 m in two to three seasons. It grows well in sun or semi-shade and tolerates a fair amount of frost.
Two of the most important features of the Calpurnia Aurea tree are that it can be pruned to any shape and that it produces flowers when young. It enjoys well composted soil and plenty of water during its growing season. Attractive, bright yellow, pea-shaped flowers appear in August and continue throughout summer. This small tree is very showy and is also happy as a container plant.
