Lobster Claw, Caribbean Sunset, Heliconia Lobster Claws
Heliconia Hybrids are a stunning group of plants from the tropical regions of Central and South America as well as certain Pacific Islands.
Related to the banana and Strelitzia family they have sturdy stems bearing striking blooms in an array of bright colours. Colourful bracts enclose the true flowers in a similar manner to the aforementioned Bougainvilleas. They grow in light shade, forming clumps of large green leaves from which the spectacular flowers emerge. This is an easy-to-grow plant for the frost free, sub-tropical areas where high summer humidity abounds.
