3 Pots for Christmas

If you are looking for some fun craft things to do this year to decorate your home and get the kids involved, these are for you. Get into the holiday spirit with these 3 pots for Christmas.

Christmas is the perfect time for giving a green gift. Get into the festive spirit and turn your plant pots into Christmas pot holders. Here are 3 pots for Christmas ideas:

Pot 1 – Santa Suit

What you need:

  • A pot
  • Red spray-paint
  • Black spray-paint
  • White spray-paint
  • Masking tape
  • 3 buttons
  • Glue gun

Mask out the lip of the pot and spray-paint the pot red. Once dry, mask below the lip and spray-paint the pot lip white. If you don’t have black buttons, spray-paint the buttons black. Stick the buttons to the side of pot with a glue gun. We planted a Begonia elatior ‘Red’ in our pot and placed coir husk around the plant.

Pot 2 – Green Fairy Lights

What you need:

  • A pot
  • Green spray-paint
  • TipEx marker
  • Earbuds
  • Acrylic paint

Spray-paint a pot green. Once dry, draw a string of lights with TipEx pen around and just under the rim. Using earbuds, dab coloured spots onto the drawn string of lights. We used a jade plant (Crassula ovata) for this pot and added sphagnum moss around the plant. Crassulas are well suited to the patio or a sunny area. Extra Christmas lights are optional.

Pot 3 – Christmas Present

What you need:

  • A pot
  • Gold spray-paint
  • Ribbon
  • Glue gun

Spray the pot gold. Cut two pieces of ribbon and make a cross beneath the pot, securing to the inside of the pot with hot glue. Make a bow and stick it to the band of ribbon. We used a spekboom (Portulacaria afra) for our pot present. They are well known for purifying the air and can grow in full sun or bright light. We finished off the pot by placing macadamia shells around our plant.
