How To Make A DIY Hanging Basket Stand
- Make a mark in the centre of the top piece. You can do this by drawing diagonal lines from corner to corner – the middle is where they intersect. Drill a 3mm pilot hole at this mark, not all the way through. This is where the cup hook will go a bit later. Then, drill two 3mm holes on either side of the pilot hole 1cm from the first hole and going all the way through – to secure the finial on the other side of the plank.Â
- Cut the dowel off the finial and then put wood glue on the bottom of the finial and place it in the centre of the top piece. Screw wood screws through the pilot holes to secure it, and screw a cup hook into the pilot hole drilled for it.Â
- Line up the top piece so that it is flush with an upright, then drill pilot holes through the top piece and into the upright. Repeat on the other end of the top, into the other upright. Apply wood glue to the top of each upright and screw the top piece to the two uprights.Â
- Flip the structure and repeat with the bottom, drilling pilot holes and then glue and screw the bottom to the uprights.Â
- Glue and screw the bottom of the rectangle onto the base in the centre.Â
- Sand the wood down until smooth, then wipe down the wood with a cloth that has been dampened with mineral turpentine. Leave to dry.
- Open the Woodoc 35 and stir well with a flat spatula. Apply three coats allowing each coat to dry. Between coats lightly sand, dust and wipe down with mineral turpentine. But don’t sand on the last coat.
- Plant up a hanging basket and hang it from the cup hook.
