Euphorbia tirucalli

Sticks of Fire

Euphorbia tirucalli

In nature Euphorbia Tirucalli often forms almost indestructible thickets which made it a popular hedge plant around settlements and kraals.

The garden variety Euphorbia Tirucalli ‘Sticks of Fire’ has golden-yellow branches with coral-orange tips. Baking heat and drought deepens these colours to red which makes this plant stand out like a glowing beacon. It grows in all but the coldest climates.

  • A very versatile and supportive plant which is equally at home in a rock garden, planted in pots or in a tropical-style garden.
  • It flourishes even when neglected.
  •  It gets its own back when being pruned by releasing milky latex that may cause skin irritation.
