Orchid Christmas

A Phalaenopsis orchid is the perfect gift for someone special and a décor item that will transform a festive table into a tropical dream.

Phalaenopsis orchids, also called ‘moth orchids’, are known for their stunning, long-lasting flowers in various colours and patterns. They can add an elegant touch to any space. This Christmas, decorate with orchids to bring a tropical luxury to festive tables and spaces. Here are some ideas to decorate with orchids:

  • Table centerpiece: Use orchids as the focal point for a table and add moss, driftwood, baubles, beads, pinecones, candles, or fairy lights and greenery to bring it to life.
  • Decorative balls: Add orchids to clear glass or plastic orbs, decorate the table, hang them on a tree or suspend them from the ceiling or in windows.
  • Tropical displays: group several potted Phalaenopsis orchids together for tropical opulence.
  • Orchids and candles: Pair candles with potted orchids for a mantle or side table display.
  • Accents: Use an orchid flower to add to your wrapped gift box, add to festive wreaths or hang on a tree.

Why choose a Phalaenopsis

There are several reasons why orchids are excellent houseplants:

  • Flower for months. They last more than three times longer than the same value in cut flowers.
  • Easy to look after.
  • Have a low allergenic scale for pollen with a 1/10 rating on the allergy scale.
  • Come in many different colours.
  • They will cope with various household conditions, including low light.

Quick are guide

Phalaenopsis orchids thrive in bright, indirect light and prefer temperatures between 18-24°C during the day and slightly cooler at night. Water them once a week, allowing the potting medium to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. Fertilize with a balanced orchid fertilizer every couple of weeks during the growing season. Do not fertilize when flowering.

These plants are grown by LVG Plants and are available at your local houseplant retailer
