Hypoestes aristata

Ribbon Bush or Purple Haze

Hypoestes aristata

Hypoestes Aristata, more commonly known as the Ribbon Bush or Purple Haze, is an evergreen shrub approximately 1 m in height. From early to mid winter, when very little else is in flower in the garden, this stunner produces an intense show of purple blooms – hence the name Purple Haze.

Hypoestes Aristata is indigenous to South Africa and while it can grow in full sun, it prefers semi-shade. This is a versatile plant for out of the way plantings that receive little or no water. It needs very little attention other than trimming back after flowering, or when it becomes woody with age. During the summer months the bush has a neat and compact appearance and amongst other things is useful as a backdrop to a low, mixed, herbaceous border.
