Quick and Easy Braai Desserts

Braai peaches – our number one braai dessert

Hot peaches and cold ice cream, the best braai dessert – what’s not right about that?

  • Fresh peaches – ½ per person
  • Honey
  • Brown sugar
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Vanilla ice cream to serve
  • Thyme leaves

Cut the peaches in half and remove the pip. Place on a tray, cut side up, and drizzle with honey. Mix brown sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle over the peaches. We used a grill mat to cook our peaches, but they can go straight onto a cleaned grill. Place them cut-side down and on the grill, and cook for 10 minutes, then flip to heat through and serve with ice cream and thyme leaves.

Bread and butter pudding

A traditional braai dessert with a twist.

  • 6 slices fresh white bread
  • 100g butter, melted
  • Castor sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 250ml milk
  • 100g fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 100g fresh blueberries
  • 50g raisins (optional)
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 900ml foil container
  • Tinfoil

Brush the slices of bread on both sides with the melted butter, and cut into four triangles. Layer the pudding in the foil container, starting with the buttered bread, then dusting with castor sugar, then some of the fruit and lemon zest. Keep on with the layers until the container is full. Beat together the milk and eggs and pour over the pudding. Cover with tinfoil and bake on the grill until set (20 – 25 minutes).

Baked bananas

Soft and sticky – the kids will love this braai dessert and so will you! Make it a family night treat.

  • Bananas (½ – 1 per person)
  • Baby marshmallows

Cut a slit in the inside of the banana’s curve and press down on a tray to open the cavity. Fill the cavity with baby marshmallows. Place directly on the grid for 10 minutes, then scoop the mixture out of the peel with a spoon.
