Sirloin with tomato, mozzarella and basil

A Himalayan Crystal Salt Slab imparts a wonderful flavour to the food and has health benefits too. There are many things you can cook on your slab, from seafood and vegetables to meats and eggs. The key is to cook something that does not require a long cooking time. One recipe we were dying to try on the salt slab was a trusty steak with tomato, mozzarella and basil to garnish.

Ingredients:

  • Choose 2 x 200g sirloin or ribeye steaks with lots of marbling for flavour
  • Olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 tomatoes, cut into 1cm slices
  • 100g mozzarella, cut into 1cm slices
  • Basil leaves
  • Freshly ground pepper

Method:

Marinate the steak in a little olive oil, the juice of 1 lemon and freshly ground black pepper. Heat the salt block until sizzling and place the steak on the block. Next to this add the tomato slices, top with a slice of mozzarella and basil leaves. Cook the steak as you would like it, turning once. We used a salt block for this recipe. Let the meat rest and serve with the tomato and mozzarella slices.
