Surf and Turf – The Turf Steaks

The Americans are famous for their beach clambakes, where a hole is dug on the beach and lined with rocks, and then a big fire lit on the rocks.
Ingredients like lobsters, mussels, crabs, potatoes, sausages like chorizo and obviously clams are piled on top of seaweed once the coals have heated the rocks, then topped with more seaweed and covered with sand. Once everything is cooked (and if you haven’t forgotten where you buried it!), you dig it up and indulge in freshly steamed seafood and veggies.
For those who don’t like seafood or who are allergic to it, these quick steaks with a delectable marinade will do the trick.
Ingredients for your Steaks
- 4 steaks of your choice
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 2cm piece of ginger, finely grated
- 1 lemon, cut into wedges
Place all the ingredients in a bowl and marinate the steaks for at least 3 hours, but preferably overnight. Season the steaks well with salt and pepper before cooking. Cook on a fire until done to your liking.
Serve with lemon.
