Sweet potato bake

A slightly different take on a dish that is a staple at any South African braai.


  • 3 large sweet potatoes
  • A handful baby spinach leaves
  • 200g cream cheese
  • 70g walnuts, roughly chopped
  • 100g cheddar cheese, grated


Boil the sweet potatoes until soft, then peel and cut into slices. Make a layer at the bottom of an ovenproof dish and top with a layer of spinach leaves. Mix together the cream cheese and the walnuts and spoon over the spinach, then top with the grated cheese. Bake at 180°C for ½ hour so the flavours mingle and the cheese is melted and golden, then serve.
