Aloe ‘Peri-Peri’
We all love aloes, those hard-to-kill, structural beauties that are such a striking part of our natural landscape and this Aloe ‘Peri Peri’ fits the bill perfectly. The compact and free-flowering aloes that we can plant in small gardens or pots nowadays, are mostly hybrids bred by complex breeding programmes and have been closely monitored to give modern gardeners the best quality plants possible, with a better disease-resistance and a higher drought-tolerance.
They have healthy foliage, some with interesting thorns and hues of green and grey, and their flowers are profuse in a magnificent range of bright colours from early winter into spring. These hybrids have all the wildlife benefits of species growing naturally in the veld, like attracting bees, butterflies and nectar-feeding birds.
‘Peri Peri’ is a gorgeous hybrid which has hot orange-red flowers on the end of long stalks and a lovely sculptural form. This little aloe grows to 20cm high and 40cm wide making it compact enough for small gardens and containers. It is also ideal for rockeries as well as mass planting as it will grow into large clumps through suckers.
The brilliant orange flowers attract bees, sunbirds and butterflies. They appear from April to late July in South Africa, a longer flowering period than most aloes. This makes it a perfect plant to add pops of bright colour in a winter garden that might otherwise be bare.

Diseases: It is mostly immune to Aloe Cancer but is susceptible to black spot if the conditions allow.
