Plumbago auriculata

Royal Cape

Plumbago auriculata

Typical characteristics of plumbago is that it is a tough, scrambling shrub which grows and blooms in light shade but, because it is always looking for the sun, it may clamber way up into trees, flowering at a level where you least expect it. P. auriculata ‘Royal Cape’ has a more compact growth habit than other genus members and produces intensely blue, phlox-like flowers. This indigenous plant’s worth has also been noticed by gardeners in the rest of the world where it has become a firm favourite.

  • Willing bloomer.
  • Good hedge, background or pot plant.
  • Sensitive to frost but it is able to recover.
