The EduPlant School Gardening and Nutrition Competition

EduPlant focuses on schools, learners, and their surrounding communities. It develops school-linked food security clusters in under-resourced communities and townships. In partnership with Tiger Brands and Woolworths, EduPlant took the culmination of the 2 year cycle online to host a virtual competition in 2020. Participating schools were encouraged to enter online by submitting a video of their school food garden, as well as photos showcasing how the garden contributes to the school feeding scheme. 42 schools have been selected as finalists in this year’s competition. There is a total of R300,000 worth of prizes to be won. Winners will be announced at the end of October 2020.

The categories are:

Emerging – first time EduPlant schools

Experienced – schools that may have entered the competition before and won a previous category.

Mentoring – schools with advanced permaculture knowledge which have won awards in previous competitions and are now mentoring other schools and communities in their vicinity.

Most Improved School – awarded to the school who improves the most in the Experienced category.

Fan Favourite – as voted for by social media engagement.

Provincial Winners – best school from each province.
