DIY Dog Treats

These peanut butter-based DIY dog treats are easy to make and a good source of protein and healthy fats for your dog.

DIY Dog Treats Ingredients

  • 2 cups wholewheat flour
  • ½ cup smooth peanut butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • ¼ cup water, extra if needed

To make your DIY dog treats mix the flour, peanut butter, eggs and parsley in a bowl until just combined. Add water a little at a time until the mixture comes together and can be rolled out like a dough. Use some extra flour to roll out the dough to about 5mm thick. Cut out shapes with a cookie cutter or glass, or just cut the dough in squares. Place on baking paper on baking trays and bake for 15 minutes at 180°C.

This recipe makes about 36 treats. They will keep for a week in an airtight container. Freeze half the mixture before cooking if you won’t get through them in time.

NOTE: Make sure the peanut butter you use doesn’t contain xylitol, a non-nutritive sweetener (sugar substitute). While xylitol is healthy for humans to eat, it is toxic for dogs and cats. Read the label of your peanut butter before you feed it to any pets.
