Senecio cineraria ‘Silver Dust’

Dusty Miller

Senecio Cineraria ‘Silver Dust’ (Dusty Miller) is a low-growing sub-shrub that is often treated as an annual.

It has deeply-divided leaves, up to 15 cm long, that are obviously silvery-grey to almost white in colour. It is commonly used in bedding plantings to create contrast or definition.

The loose, yellow flower heads appear on long stems that usually distort and deform the otherwise compact plants so, to maintain a neat shape and form, they are best nipped out as soon as they are identifiable.

Many other forms of Senecio Cineraria are available with distinctly different leaf shapes, though all have that familiar silver-grey look about them. Mature plants are 50 to 60cm tall with a similar width; they are moderately cold tolerant.
