Cymbidium hybrids

Boat Orchid

cymbidiums

The genus Cymbidium in the Orchidaceae (Orchid) family consists of about 50 species, from which many thousands of hybrids have been bred. Cymbidiums are best grown indoors, but if you live in an area that has low humidity, very little frost and temperatures that don’t fall to below two degrees Celsius, these beauties will thrive in your garden.

Cymbidiums will, more often than not, produce flowers from July to December and make an eye-catching display. Light and water are very important factors in maintaining these plants at their healthiest. They enjoy full sun in the colder months and semi shade in the hotter months. If they are grown indoors, they should only receive full sun till about 11 in the morning to avoid burning. Dark drooping leaves and an absence of flowers indicates a requirement for more light.

Cymbidiums should never be allowed to dry out, so check the moistness of your soil often, especially in the hotter times.
