Steps to make the DIY Firewood Rack

  1. Lay out 2 x 1000mm lengths on the floor and the 850mm lengths inside to form the top and bottom. Join with a butt-joint and secure with 2 x 100mm screws per joint.
  2.  Place the 1190mm length diagonally from top left corner to bottom right. This is not secured to the outer frame.
  3. Place 2 x 570mm pieces from the opposite corners to center diagonal, these should join as an offset to the one opposite. Secure these short lengths to center diagonal with the L-brackets and 50mm screws, adjusting as necessary to get everything lined up. *Make another identical framework from steps 1-3.
  4. Stand both completed framework sides upright and join the sides together with a slat. Start at the top and work downwards, using the 4 x 50mm woodscrews.
  5. Secure the second side and then ones at the bottom. It is now easier to work from the side, by rotating the frame 90°.
  6. Use an offcut of the larger timber (75mm x 50mm) placed flat on the long side as a spacer between the slats. The sides will take 7 slats each, the base will take 6 slats, and each of the X-bars will take 4 slats.
  7. Add the 20ml Woodoc Colours (Teak) to 1L of Woodoc Water-Borne MARINE Clear Matt. Stir well, using a flat paddle.
  8. Apply three coats of the tinted sealer to the entire frame, allowing it to dry completely between coats.
  9. Smooth down with fine sandpaper after the first and second coats have dried.  No sanding needed after the third coat has dried.
  10.  Place the 2 x 500mm x 500mm paving stones on top of the rack and fill with firewood.

TIP: The Paving stones can be pre-painted with Woodoc 45 Tile and Cement Sealer which gives them a glossy finish and prevents stains from making marks.
