Rothmannia globosa

September Bells

Rothmannia globosa

Rothmannia globosa is decorative ornamental shrub or small tree grows to a height of 6 m in a sunny or semi-shade position. It is a relatively slow grower but will produce its showy flowers at an early age. The leaves are an attractive glossy green with reddish-purple veins.

A profusion of large, sweetly-scented, creamy-white, bell-shaped flowers can appear any time from September to December. The flowers are followed by brown-black fruits that stay on the tree for a long period of time and are much sought after by the birds.

Rothmannia Globosa likes to grow in fertile, well drained acid soil and needs watering and feeding throughout the year. It has a non aggressive root system and should be planted in areas with little or no frost.
