Fried Green Tomatoes

When we think of fried green tomatoes, most of think of the novel or movie but this American dish is delicious in it’s own right. You wouldn’t ordinarily choose to eat unripe tomatoes but fry them in some batter and they are good as gold.
Fried green tomatoes are really easy to make and provide you with the perfect combination of crunchy and tender. It can be used as an appetiser, a snack or a side dish. Pair them with a dipping sauce for an even better experience. Try them with an aioli, tzatziki, sriracha mayo or any other dipping sauce.
Ingredients:
- 4-6 Large Green Tomatoes – Sliced 5mm thick
- Salt and Pepper
- Flour for dusting
- 2 eggs, beaten
- Maize meal or bread crumbs
- Vegetable oil
Preparation:
Season the tomato slices with salt and pepper then dust lightly with flour. Dip each slice into the beaten egg, allow the excess to drip off, coat generously with cornmeal or bread crumbs. Fry in hot oil, turning gentry until golden (about 3 minutes per side).
