DIY Elegant Pot Plant Stand
A stylish three-legged pot stand is deceptively easy to make. Let’s see how we can make this elegant pot plant stand in 1-2-3!
You Need
20mm x 68mm x 2000mm meranti plank cut to: 3 x 150mm, with the one end of each cut at a 60° angle (surface) AND 3 x 450mm (legs)
3 x 90° brackets
3 x 90° flat brackets
20mm screws
20cm decorate pot cover, preferably with straight sides
Wood sealer (we used Howard Feed-N-Wax Wood Polish and Conditioner)
Wood glue
Tools: Sander with 180-grit paper, ruler, mitre saw, cordless drill and driver bit, pencil, clean cloth
How to make an elegant pot plant stand
- Place the three 150mm pieces on your work surface, meeting at the angled end. This is a ‘dry fitting’ to ensure you don’t make a mistake when gluing.
- Place glue on the angled cuts and then fit the pieces together again, as in step 1.
- Use the flat brackets and screws
to secure the three pieces tightly together. (Pilot holes are always a good idea, to prevent the wood from splitting.) Leave for the glue to dry. - Measure 100mm from one end of each leg and draw a line. (Or use a 100mm piece of scrap as a spacer.)
- Screw the 90° brackets to the legs, the top of them flush with the lines.
- Attach the three sections of the pot stand surface to the three legs, via the brackets. Use glue as well for a stronger, more permanent join.
- Sand the completed structure.
- Seal with a wood sealer.
TIPS
- These dimensions can be adjusted for different size pots, or the legs can be made shorter or thinner wood used for a more delicate appearance.
- If you don’t want to use brackets, this is a great project for a Kreg jig.
